US wants Pakistan to be tougher on terrorism

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has raised the importance of Pakistan taking "decisive action" against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process.

Pompeo talked by phone with Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said that Secretary Pompeo expressed his willingness to work with Pakistan's new government.

However, spokesperson for Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Faisal said on Twitter that terrorism was not mentioned in the phone conversation. A statement from the Pakistan Prime Minister's Office said Prime Minister Imran Khan emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations on the basis of mutual trust and mutual benefit.
