Venezuela wishes to improve relations with the US

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he hoped for improved relations with the US under Donald Trump's presidency.

Speaking on his weekly TV program on Sunday, the President said his country would have better relations with the US despite some mistakes under previous US administrations. US-Venezuela relations became tense after 1999 under Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. In 2013, President Maduro blamed the US for being behind an "economic war" that left Venezuela in serious economic crisis.
