Vietnam braces for another storm

Another storm is heading straight for northern and north-central Vietnam following its evolution from a tropical depression Monday afternoon.

Storm Nangka made its appearance a day after storm Linfa made landfall in central Vietnam.

As of Monday afternoon, storm Linfa left 21 dead and 14 missing, causing great economic loss. Torrential rains are expected to continue in some central provinces until Tuesday, as rain is unlikely to cease.

Storm Nangka is forecast to affect central, northern central and northern provinces of Vietnam on this weekend. Localities and rescue forces are urging ships to quickly return to shore.

Mr. Tran Quang Hoai, Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on National Disaster Prevention and Control, said, “The damage scale is large, thus it is essential to closely watch the developments and update information to the local authorities and people.

"The most important thing now is to assure safety for the people and help them evacuate to safer areas. Besides, we need to ensure enough food, medicine and other necessities for people in flood-hit areas”.
