Vietnam, Madagascar agree to tighten cooperation in international forums

A red carpet welcome was given on Friday to Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang, who is visiting Madagascar to attend the 16th Francophone Summit. During talks after the welcome ceremony, Madagascar President Hery Rajaonarimampianina praised President Quang's visit, the first by a Vietnamese head of state to Madagascar, as of paramount importance.

President Tran Dai Quang said Vietnam's ready to cooperate with Madagascar in agriculture, trade and investment, and called for more exchanges of delegations to deepen bilateral ties.

The two Presidents welcomed the opening of Madagascar's honorary Consulate Office in Vietnam, describing it as a landmark in bilateral friendship. They highlighted the principle of settling maritime disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international laws, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The leaders also agreed to work closer with each other in international forums, particularly the United Nations and the non-aligned movement.
