Vietnam wants World Bank to help its firms join global value chain

Vietnam hopes the World Bank will help it fine tune development strategies in order to join the global value chain, Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said on Monday.

During talks in Hanoi with Senior Vice President and chief economist of the World Bank Pinelopi Koujianou Goldberg, who is in Vietnam to attend the Vietnam Reform and Development Forum 2019, the Deputy PM said Vietnam hopes to become a successful upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2045.

The two discussed opportunities and challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution, investment in human resources, boosting workers' income, and policies to facilitate the private sector's involvement in tech development.

Goldberg said Vietnam should invest more in human resources, promote innovation, and boost the private sector.
