Viettel to install more 10,000 4G base transceiver stations

PANO The Military Industry-Telecoms Group Viettel on April 9 announced its plan to raise the quality of the fourth generation mobile data transferring technology (4G) network.

Accordingly, the military business will add around 10,000 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) with the 2100MHz band in 15 provinces and cities which have a high demand for data uses with the permission from the Ministry of Information and Communications. The BTS installation is slated to be completed in the second quarter of this year.

Also, Viettel will install 1,000 small cell broadcast stations and remove 2G subscribers from the 1800MHz band to give the entire band for the 4G network.

When it is completed, Viettel's high-speed 4G network capacity will increase by 25% to 50% in comparison with the current one and the average speed of 4G will be from 1.3 to 1.5 times faster.

At present, Viettel is the only mobile service provider operating a 4G network on both 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands.
