VN-Laos Friendship Association celebrates 40thanniversary

VGP – Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 15 attended a meeting to celebrate the 40th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Association.

The Deputy PM sooje highly of the role of the Association in the two nations’ people-to-people exchange activities.

Viet Nam is actively preparing for the 37th meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Inter-governmental Committee in late January, said the Deputy PM.

He hoped that in the future, the Association will accelerate people-to-people exchanges, exchanges between two nations’ high-raking delegations, promoting economic and trade cooperation as well as human resource development.

In 2014, the two-way trade turnover reached US$1.4 billion, up 34.5% from a  year ago. The two nations are striving to raise the value to US$2 billion by the end of 2015.

Viet Nam is one of the largest investors in Laos, having poured US$5 billion in the neighboring country.

In 2015, the two sides will launch the construction of Viet Nam-Laos Highway and the signing of a Trade Agreement, among other works.
