DPRK-US summit 2019: Russian experts emphasize Vietnam’s position

The upcoming DPRK-US Summit in Hanoi is becoming the focus of international public attention.

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Russia, international commentator Grigory Trofilmchuk, Chairman of the Council of Experts of the Asia-Europe Foundation, highly appreciated Vietnam's approach to peace and its active role in organizing the summit. He emphasized that the second Russia-US summit was held during the framework of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Vietnam in 2017.

Program Director of Russia's "Valdai" Club Ivan Timofeev, said Vietnam plays an important intermediary role as host of the most important negotiation for regional security. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Vietnam was chosen to host the DPKP-US summit because Vietnam is currently conducting a very responsible foreign policy, an open country for cooperating with all parties. Vietnam is faithful to friends and does not want to confront any country, he said. The Russian top diplomat noted that the friendly atmosphere in Vietnam is conducive to political negotiations.
