At the reception, General Brooks, who is in Ha Noi for a working visit, informed the host on the results of his working session with the Deputy Chief of the VPA General Staff Vo Van Tuan, which reviewed the cooperation between the two armies under the 2011 Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperation.

Both sides also discussed the orientation for cooperation in the future in such fields as humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, military medicine, and exchange of experience in the building of peacekeeping forces for the United Nations.

Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty affirmed that the comprehensive partnership is a firm foundation for Viet Nam and the US to lift their bilateral defence cooperation to a new high.

He suggested that the two countries further foster the exchange of visits at all levels and intensify cooperation in exchanging information, sharing experience in search and rescue operations at sea, English language training for Vietnamese military personnel, and overcoming post-war consequences.
